Traditional Scandinavian herding calling!

by sikbitz

Youtuber Jonna Jinton uses the ancient singing technique known as kulning to bring in a herd of cows!

Kulning or herding calls is a domestic Scandinavian music form, often used to call livestock (cows, goats, etc.) down from high mountain pastures where they have been grazing during the day. It is possible that the sound also serves to scare away predators (wolves, bears, etc.), but this is not the main purpose of the call.

I really can’t get over how great this sounds not to mention that it’s used to literally call cows back home from high in the mountains. It’s traditions like this that we’re slowly losing to the digital age, im glad there are people like ionna who keep these alive!
