DIY USB PC destroyer?

by sikbitz

Lately there have been a lot of posts floating around the internet of manufactured USB sticks that can fry a computer in a split second.

Essentially one or more capacitors inside the device are powered via the USB power lines and then they’re discharged over the data lines of the host device. This charge/discharge cycle can repeat many times per second making the device it’s plugged into die.

The one in the video uses just one capacitor but it has exactly the same effect as one with multiple capacitors. You could probably make it for around £5 which is a fraction of what a manufactured one would cost!
