Globe making in 1955!
The narrator tells us that this is a famous North London firm of geographers (but he doesn’t tell us who). He recounts the history of globe making and the technique of building up layers of paper and plaster onto the solid ball of wood.
Sixty thousand globes were hand made at this place every year with each globe taking around fifteen hours from start to finish.
It also states in the video that some of the workers there had been making globes for thirty years, something that is pretty much unheard of now.
A short but interesting insight into a time where most things were hand made!
