Sharpening a $1 knife?

by sikbitz

Heres an interesting video from JunsKitchen that shows you what a set of sharpening stones can do to a super cheap kitchen knife!

As you might have guessed, it makes the knife hella sharp.

Sharpening stones come in grits, and these two grits (#1000 & #6000) would be enough for a normal household knife. I used grits 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 8,000, and 12,000 in this video. The higher the number, the finer the sanding and the sharper the knife will be.

The only issue with doing this to a cheap knife is that you will need to sharpen it a lot more often, which is why chefs tend to buy higher quality. It’s definitely worth investing some money and time in a decent set of sharpening stones before buying expensive knives.
